A central slip injury is when the extensor tendon connection to the top of the middle finger bone (middle phalanx) is torn such that the finger cannot be straightened through the middle (PIP) joint.

Treatment

  • Apply the finger splint over the middle joint (PIP) of the finger. 
  • Apply pads to create a gentle, contact force to straighten the finger. Do not create a tight splint and confirm that the tip of your finger is pink, NOT grey or blue.

 

NO STRAP IS NEEDED FOR THIS INJURY
